You've made the right choice.. why present perfect??

Teachers, please help me with another present perfect question. Watching a drama I heard an actress say, "I think you have made the right choice." and am wondering why the present perfect tense was used here. I guess the simple past tense would not make a big difference. Thank you so much!

Hi, Both tenses are possible, but the Present Perfect stresses more that the event has significance to the present situation. Clive

Thanks so much, Clive. I'm also thinking that the present perfect tense was used because the event is within the present time frame. But then what is the present time frame? I read it from some grammar book or somewhere.

Hi,

I think it's easier to think of the Present Perfect as referring to a past event that has some lmportance at the time of speaking.

Consider these simple examples.

My wife says to me, 'I cooked dinner.' This sounds a bit like she is just talking about something she did in the past, eg maybe last week.
