Youth version

I've seen the following on a web site which reviews smartphones:

"These photos show the Xiaocai Edge running a quad-core MT6589T 1.5Ghz chipset, but apparently this is just the youth version and the premium model won’t be released until the new 8-core chipset is available."

What about this expression, "youth version"? I know how it is meant, but I want to know if it's natural English, because it seems a little strange to my ears.

I haven't seen this phrase before. Does it mean 'the basic version'? It may be technical jargon, or it may be English written by a non-native speaker.

So it is not standard English? It means "standard" or "basic" version, as opposed to a more expensive premium version. The web site reviews chinese smartphones, so maybe this is some translation quirk from the chinese language?

When I google for "youth + chinese smartphone" I get a lot of results, a lot of different chinese manufacturers use this expression to label their smaller, cheaper

It's not technical jargon. They mean preliminary, first, or initial. The 8-core has double the number of processors as the quad, but apparently it is not ready to be released. My young relatives "the youth"

My phone is an ancient super cheap plain old vanilla Samsung. It is not an iPhone; it's not even a flip-phone. I can't even do "texting" on it.
geoyoCould it just mean "youth" in the sense of a technically inferior brother of the bigger phone? Just like kids who are not as phys
