Levels of youth crime are increasing rapidly in most cities around the world.
What are the reasons for this, and suggest some solutions.
Rates of juvenile crime have recently had a sharp upward trend around the globe. There are several reasons for this alarming increase. However, there are also measures to deal with this problem. This essay will provide some important reasons for youth crime as well as solutions to reduce its levels.
There are several reasons that explain the rapid increases in the youth crime around the world. To begin with, a significant proportion of the juvenile crimes are committed in big cities, where both parents have to go out and work to afford for the family. Therefore, children cannot grow in a balanced way since they do not receive their due support and care from their parents. All too often, especially in the poorer countries, the children are left alone at home or with their relatives while their parents are at work. In such cases, the children may find wrong role models or be misled or abused by some criminals. In addition, poverty also plays a significant role in raising crime rates in general, and youth crime in particular. Actually, with globalization, the rich have become richer and the poor have become poorer. This has led to many poor young people resorting to illegal means to make ends meet.
That said, there are some effective solutions to tackle the problem. First and foremost, in a very broad viewpoint, governments should provide more job opportunities and better salaries for young people. If the youth are provided with enough job prospects, they will probably no longer consider violent means as their first option to make money. Besides, families should also take the guardian of their children seriously. Children need to be carefully supervised and nurtured properly in every stage of their lives. If they get into the habit of committing even minor crimes in childhood, chances can be very strong for them to develop into serious criminals in adulthood.
In conclusion, various reasons have contributed to the upward trend in youth crime in today’s world. The reasons seem to be mostly connected with poverty. However, there are immediate as well as long-term solutions to combat this problem.
