"Yours" in letter ending

Hello,

Would it be proper to end an informal letter with just "Yours John", without "sincerely" or "truly" and such?

I think it makes sense to end a letter with just "yours, . . . " if you are reasonably acquainted with someone. In the UK, it is now commonplace to address almost anyone whom you have had official or private dealings with, with their first name. Don't ask me why.

I cannot see that a simple salutation at the end of a letter would not suffice. The adjectives (adverbs or prepositions?) "
