Your nose has gotten away

(American English, 1961)

The conversation is:

Anne: These swiss boys know some tricks too.
Harry: Well, all they ever did to you was your hoot. The first time I kissed you, your nose has gotten away.

What does this expression mean? Avert?
If it's that, how can a girl avert her nose when a person is kissing her?
Is it maybe an idiom?

Top answer

I've never heard the expression. I suspect there's something amiss in the transcription.

No idea. "was to hoot" instead of "was your hoot"?

The header distracted me away from the rest of the sentence, so I didn't address that issue.
