your blood circulates approximately 19,000 km throughout your body

In one day, your blood circulates approximately 19,000 km throughout your body.

Hi,

I can't figure out why it's "throughout" in the above context because we use "in" in our language. So, does "in" instead of "throughout" make sense to you in the above? If not, how should interpret "throughout" in the above? Thanks.

In is not so good as throughout here, which emphasizes the activity, its length and compass, rather than merely its location.

throughout: everywhere in
in this context

Thus in by itself would not work.
