Does this make any sense?

1 Are they a young team or old team? They are youger than they are old. They are more young than they are old.

2 Is he nice or is he mean? He is nicer than he is mean. He is more nice than he is mean.

1. Are they a young team or old team? *They are young rather than old.

2. Is he nice or mean? He is nice rather than mean.

*If they are young, then obviously they are not old. I took it to mean that this sentence is said ironically.
