Young kids around

Hi

Bono is talking about him and Michael Hutchence partying together. He says: Occasionally Michael and myself might run amok, we slept on a few beaches coming home from the clubs in Cannes, but it rarely got completely out of hand because there were young kids around. It was just a warm time.

--- I understand that "run amok" here means that they were getting crazy together, probably drinking a lot? And sometimes they slept on the beaches, however I don't get the part about "kids around". Where were those kids around - on the beach???
