You would think that... <- the use of would here?

Teachers,

I hear someone on a drama say that expression, and that made me wonder about the use of would again.

I understand that the modal will can be used for prediction with certainty (or assumption about present situations?), like in "You will know that it's true." Then I thought that this expression 'You would think that...' might be used for prediction too, but with less certainty since it's a hypothetical sentence. Am I right? Thanks so much for any help!
