'You have been so strong.' ?

Without some context, I can't tell if this is physical strength or emotional support. Could you provide a sentence or situation?

See this:
You were strong (then) and so you were able to win the contest.
You have been strong (all these years..even now) and that is why your children are doing well.

I think you have illustrated clearly the difference in your sentences.
Past tense, "were" implies you are no longer strong.
Past present "have been" means you are still strong.
Present continuous "are doing" means their health/strength is continuing.

The first part shows that the person ceases to be strong at present. The second part shows that he continues to be strong from sometime.

Actually, it doesn't. 'was strong' speaks only of the past. It says nothing about the present at all. If we say 'was strong', we do not mean 'was strong in the past but is not strong now'. Assertions about the past are not simultaneously negations about the present.

I stand corrected. "You were so strong..." as a choice, means only that (in the past) you demonstrated that strength. My assumption was that by that choice (to put it in the past tense) was that it was no longer being demonstrated. Otherwise, why choose the past tense. So "no implication" exists. My apologies.
