A formal reply would be cumbersome in an informal situation. Unfortunatly, there's no technically correct reply that's not awkward. In the example you cite, neither "you too" nor "me too" is technically correct.

I think, In this situation you should say me too. Not you too if someone said to you good morning then you should say you too.
