You should be receiving it shortly.

Hi,

this is a message I've received many times when shopping on eBay:

I have shipped the following item to you. You should be receiving it shortly.

Please could you explain why You should be receiving and not You should receive? What's the difference in meaning between those two?

Top answer

Pastsimple What's the difference in meaning between those two? The difference is not so much in the meaning as in the style of the message. be receiving makes it sound more warm and friendly, and receive makes it sound more cool and official.
