You must do something to irritate them

Hello everybody.

I can't get the relationship between these two sentences.

Would you please help me?

" You must do something to irritate them." I remember Mum saying when I get older and a couple of the other teenager girls in my year started to bully me at school. " You' be got to learn how to fit in, Jane."

I can't understand how we must irritate those girls and fit in.

Thanks so much for the help ??.

"Must" is not a command here. It's more like "It must be the case that you do something to irritate them." OR "You must be doing something …."
