You fine with that?

Hi teachers. Would "you fine with that" be perfectly natural here? And is it natural to omit the "are" in front of it in speech? Thank you.

a: So she still don't want to move in with you?

b: No.

a: (Are) You fine with that?

b: Yeah. I'm in rush either. We're taking it slowly.

anonymous Would "you fine with that" be perfectly natural here? In extremely casual speech, yes. It does not work in writing outside of dialogue, and it sounds sub-standard in speech.

  • But among acquaintances in everyday speech, I would go so far as to say it's usual in many US dialects.
  • Still, if you always include the "are", nobody will notice, and you'll be safer.
