You Are Meant To Be.

Hi.

I'm just curious to know .... You would say, "You guys are meant to be," when you want to say, "You two are destined to meet each other and be together." In the former sentence, you would more formally want to say, "You are meant to be together," right? Also, in or at is dropped off after be when you say this is the place to be, right?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes you have the right meanings, I wouldn't say 'be together' is necessarily more formal than just 'be' though. You are correct in dropping in or at when discussing a place in this way.

"You two are meant to be together"

Yes there is a very slight difference.

'You two are meant to be together is quite straightforward.

'Meant to be' is an idiom meaning 'fated' or 'destined to be or happen' so in this context would mean that they were destined to be a couple ('a couple' is implied here). 'It was meant to be' or 'It wasn't meant to be' are quite common phrases and you don't have to specify what the

I agree with nona the term "together" is definately understood in the english "language"; but should be placed in "wrighting" to make it more gramatically correct.

OK, after making a search at Yahoo on
you two were meant to be,
I came up with many
you two were meant to be together,
but also many without, especially on personal/dating sites, thus I must say it's understood by many.

I don't like it in terms of clarity, because you can also find
