Vocabulary

yield

In general, crystallography yields the position of most atoms to within a few tenths of an Ångström, a resolution matched by few other methods.

Hello

I have two questions related to the above sentence:

  1. what does yields mean?
  2. what is the function of to; yields to? yields to what?

  3. Thanks

Hi Maya Yields = gives as required To has nothing to do with yields. It refers to accuracy: so accurately that the position deviates no more than a few tenths of an Ångström from the actual correct position. Cheers CB
