Yet, conj or adv?

1. A peculiar feature of the embryonic mammalian circulatory system is that in the area of the heart the cells adhere to one another, beating in unison yet adopting specialized orientations exclusive of one another.
Is yet a conj or an adv in the above sentence? I thought yetis a prep ( Emotion: big smile ) since it connect two contrasting ideas untill Ichecked it with my dictionary. (Is checked it with my dictionary correct english).

But don't you think that here the word yet is showing a contrast between two entities/things.
Shouldn't it be a preposition?

OK guys I got it. If we replace it with but then the meaning almst remains intact and it becomes clear that it's a conjunction.

Thank You
