Here I've found one of the definitions of "yet"

If you say that you have yet to do something, you mean that you have never done it, especially when this is surprising or bad.

eg)He has been nominated three times for the Oscar, but has yet to win

1. Can "yet" in bold be replaced with never?; cause the definition says you have never done.

2. Can "has yet to win" has the same meaning as hasn't won yet? if not why?
