Yes, I suppose so. Meaning of 'so'

Hi teachers,
Another definition for 'Yes, I suppose so', could be, 'Yes, I guess so'; right?
A: I think the seat is wide enough for both of us, isn't it?
B: Yes, I suppose so.

My questions:
a) Which sentence element is 'so'?
b) Which part of speech is 'so'?
c) What is the meaning of 'so' in this case? Could it be 'in the same way'?
