x of y

If " I am a friend of his" is right just like
"I am a fan of yours"
"He is a friend of mine"
"I am a fan of jackson's"

why isn't it "for the sake of god's"?

would "i am a friend of your father's cousin" be valid ?

What would it be :

"I am a fan of batman" or "I am a fan of batman's"
"I am a fan of that band" or " I am a fan of that band's"

Top answer

I am a fan of Jackson. I am a fan of Batman. I am a fan of that band.

  • I am a fan of Jackson.
  • I am a fan of Batman.
  • I am a fan of that band.
  • I would not advocate the use of the "double genitive" in these cases.
