Wuthering

Hi,

What is the meaning of the word "wuthering" from the book "Wuthering Heights"?

I have looked it up in all my dictionaries and can't find the word.

The word in the title has been translated as "windy" in the Portuguese translation.

Thanks!

I believe you are supposed to picture a large, stately manor, high on a hill, with many trees that blow in the wind.

Thank you Philip.

I imagined that from reading the book. And I think that the expression was an attempt of the author to portray the tormented lives of the characters. Am I right?

But my question was about the word "Wuthering". I wondered if it existed with a specific meaning and if it is currently used by everyone.

To my knowledge, it is used only by people discussing the book. (Of course, I could be wrong.)

Yes, I can believe that, since as I said earlier, I can't find the word in my dictionaries (only as a reference to the book).

Thanks again!
