Wrung out and depleted

Is this sentence OK? Any other suggestions please?

By the end of the long trip, we were totally wrung out and depleted.

This isn't a good choice because it's normally used regarding wet cloth like towels and clothes.

I'd stop at 'wrung out'.

For me 'depleted' suggests supplies.

I know that some dictionaries include 'exhausted' as a definition of 'depleted', but they mean it in the sense of 'used up' (supplies, resources).
