Nowadays animal experiments are widely used to develop new medicines and to test the safety of other products. Some people argue that these experiments should be banned because it is morally wrong to cause animals to suffer, while others are in favour of them because of their benefits to humanity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
My answer:
It is commonly believed that scientists experiment on animals to enhance new medicines and examine safe criterion of commodities. Several people think that it is of necessity for the government to prohibit these experiments which are acclaimed to be immoral. While the others believe that human beings would receive some advantages from testing on them. From my personal standpoint, I would have to support the second statement.
On the one hand, it might be morally wrong to test on animals and the underlying reasons for this are varied. First, like human, animals have rights to live and the living of all creatures should be respected. They have their own habitats to develop freely and nurture their offspring, which contributes to the balance of ecosystem. Second, technology nowadays are really advanced and state-of-the-art so that doctors could apply to find new medicines without killing any animals by using computers or nano technology.
On the other hand, I would side with those who think using animals to experiment on medical field and products’ safety is beneficial to humans. Firstly, mankind could find potential remedies to cure some diseases, which would make the better life for humans. As we can see, many infectious diseases that people were extremely scared of in a century or a few decades ago, typical sickness such as fever or cough, now they just need to take a few medicines and about 2 or 3 days those sickness would completely disappear. Additionally, agricultural field would also be advantageous when the scientists let animals eat plants or crops with the use of pesticides or insecticides which whether or not could harm to animals. So, if they still survive without having any bad effects, farmers would be able to harvest and sell them to customers.
In conclusion, the scientists should carry out animal experiments to provide the best treatments to the risks of diseases although killing animals for the duty of saving human lives is cruel work.
