wrongly/incorrectly

Hello,
Do you think that "wrongly" can be used in: "The idiot's written his own name wrongly" sounds okay? I don't know why, but it sounds ridiculously bad to me. I think it'd be better to say "The idiot's misspelled his own name", "The idiot's written his own name incorrectly". What do you think?

There's nothing wrong with 'wrongly'. But note that it doesn't necessarily mean he misspelled it.

One last question, Clive. Is it correct to say: "You've assembled the machine wrongly. Do it over.!" Wouldn't it be better to say: "You haven't assembled/put it together properly/correctly"?

Thank you for your help.

Yes, it's correct.
But your versions are probably more common.

Note that in casual spoken English, it's common to use 'wrong' rather than 'wrongly'.
eg You've put it together wrong.
eg He wrote his name wrong.
