Wrong preposition?

Hi,

"He can speak through hours" (*)

This sentence (which is copied from an online English course) looks very "suspicious" to me...
The google search engine reports LOTS of instances of "he can speak FOR hours" ... and NO instances of (*).

Is (*) just bad grammar? or is this phase with THROUGH sort of antiquated or something?

thank you!
