The common term is simply

'Melanie got a parking ticket'.

Obviously, it's for parking illegally. They don't give you a ticket if you park legally.

But what if the type of ticket is left unspecified, like this.

-- I got a ticket yesterday.

-- What for?

Can you answer:

-- For parking.

I know you can say, "For speeding". But "For parking" doesn't sound right to my ear, and in both cases it's equally obvious that it's illegal, because you got a ticket.
