Writting task 2: living in new country

People should follow the customs and traditions when people start to live a new country. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Many people argue that foreigners sould adpat to the local customs and traditions when they come to reside in a new country. I completely agree with this view.

Newcomers will certainly feel lost and alone if they do not comform to the norms of social behaviour in the host country. Firstly, it will become almost impossible for hem to blend into their new environment. For example, Vietnamese family used to follow principles of extended family, with more than two generation: grandsparent, parents, children, grandchildren. In this type, the elders receive the highest respect from other family member and have rights to decide and rule everthing in family. In the US, the parent make strict principle that are supposed to violate the children’s freedom of citizens. Secondly, an entrepreneur who comes to live in a new country and starts up a business must be aware of the busiiness practices of that country. McDonald’s is the world largest restaurant chain by revenue. In Vietnam, however, the brand have fail to takes off. The biggest mistakes is burger and fired chicken keep the same price range in the US. Four dollars for a meal is too high for Vietnamese while most common meals are only one or two dollars, any three dollars meal is considered luxury. Another reason is most dishes on Mcdonald menu are fried without rice and soup so it is inapproriate for Vietnamese taste.

Foreigners can gain some benefits if they adopt customs and traditions of their new country of residence. The refusal to adopt to host environment would create a cultural barrier for immigrants, apparent limited knowledge of local custom could lead to break residence rule. In dead end in Vietnam, people close the alley at 11 pm to limit theft. Walking home late at night have many hindrances, resident need to open two door layers : the first is alley door and the seconds is home gate.

In conclusion, I would certainly argue that it is essential for a new residents to follow the traditions and habits of locals in the host community in order to intergrate.
