The causes of agricultural land degradation are illustrated by the pie chart while the table gives information about the impact resulted from this problem in three different regions during the 1990s.
Overall, the decrement in productivity mostly brought about by over-grazing and Europe is the place which has the highest total percentage of land degraded.
It can be seen from the pie chart that over-grazing accounted for 35% of the causes. Deforestation came second, but only 5% less than the first reason. 28% was the percentage of over-cultivation that led to the degradation of land. Apart from the 3 main reasons, it is showed in the graph that there are other separated reasons which accounted for 7% of the chart.
The table illustrates data about region land affected by 3 main causes listed above. The figure for the unproductivity in European land was 23%, which was approximately twice as much as that of Oceania. North America seemed to maintain the quality of their land well since its proportion of degraded land was only 5%. The main cause of land degradation from 3 regions was different from each other. Being overgrazed is the fundamental reason for North America land to reduce quality while overgrazing was the main one for Oceania. For Europe, deforestation accounted for the highest proportion
