Written Statement

Hello Sir/Madam,

I want to apply master of computing and information system program in Ohio. Actually I found this website by searching on Google. Really need your help to check this written statement. Thank you so much Emotion: embarrassed

My aim for applying to the graduate program in Computing and Information System is to train myself to be a highly qualified system analyst in Information Technology industry. I envision myself to become a leader of team helping organization to develop strategies through efficient technology and strategic planning. I believe that a master in Computing and Information System in Youngstown University would be the crucial step in achieving my goal.

During my ages in high school, I was introduced to HTML language and how computer can be programmed. From then, I became fascinated about computer and their programming. In my first year of high school, I participated in Science and Mathematics Competition in Information Technology subject and won the second prize. Then, I decided to take a short course of Visual Basic programming for approximately three months with an excellent result (average score of 91 out of 100 scales). In my final year of high school, I took a part in Science Competition organized by Al Azhar University and I managed to become the first winner. Because of the achievement, I was offered a full scholarship for four years course leading to a Bachelor degree in Biotechnology. However, I still decided that I want to get into the heart of computing and learn software.

My proficiency with computers and immense interest in the subject prompted me to pursue studies in the field of computers. Personal satisfaction also plays a key role in my career decision. I enjoy acquiring new skills and information, which help me to adapt to the fast-changing world. Moreover, a career with open prospects would give me constant incentive to improve myself and gain more knowledge. Therefore, after completing my high school education, I secured admission with a contribution fee scholarship in one of the best university in Indonesia (Bina Nusantara University) for a three and half years course leading to a Bachelor degree in Computer Science.

My undergraduate syllabi exposed me to all core areas of Information System such as Algorithm and Programming, Data Structure, Object Oriented Programming, Database Systems, Computer Network and Web Programming. These courses have given me a good foundation in the core concepts. Beside theoretical work, I gained practical knowledge through internship and various project works. I performed my practical experience in Genius Mind Consultancy (GMC) Papua through developing a web system using PHP and MySQL. Lab projects such as Human Resource Information System using C#.NET with SQL Server, Web Database project using PHP, Web Programming project with JSP, and Visual Programming project using VB.NET have given me opportunity to learn various programming languages, database and system design, and application security. The project for my final year was developing a data warehouse system for PT Harmoni Dinamik Indonesia Company using ASP.NET and DevExpress component with SQL Server used in the back end. This experience has given me a profound understanding about data warehouse analysis and design, data integrity, and application security.

Aside from the academic life, I participated as a member of computer club and English club in my university in the first year of lecture. While English club helped me to improve my English language proficiency, my fundamental programming skill was also be strengthened through visual programming course in the computer club with an ‘Excellent’ result. These activities have also improved my interpersonal skills and enabled me to appreciate the value of how precious it is to participate in an activity whose members come from different backgrounds. Also, I participated in various campus events, seminars and trainings to follow the technological innovation as well as improve my soft skill abilities. Soft skill trainings such as Behavioral Analysis and How to Understand Ourselves and Others have develop my personal qualities and increased my ability to become a good team player.

In the third semester of my Bachelor's program, I was working with Software Laboratory Center (SLC) as a full time teaching assistant (40 hours per week). The selection process was very competitive, with only about 10% of applicants were finally accepted, and those who passed the selection had to complete full-day training from 7 am to 8 pm, 6 days a week for about 2 months. As a teaching assistant, I taught some practical programing courses such as Algorithm and Programming (Borland C++), Computer Network, Operating System and Network Programming (Linux Knoppix and C).
One and half years later, I’ve earned a promotion as a Database Administrator in the same organization in which the main responsibilities are managing student data such as student score and attendances, creating reports, maintaining database and developing internal web application. From all those experiences I have considerably enhanced my technical skill especially my database and programming skill (SQL, C, and ASP.NET). In addition, working in such an outstanding place has given me an opportunity to augment my communication, teamwork and management skill.

The most challenging part was how to manage my time for both of study and work. However, with my perseverance, earnestness and deep love of computing world, I’ve managed to perform both of them very well. With an overall GPA of 3.74 out of 4.00, I’ve received First-Class Scholarships for two consecutive semesters (first semester and second semester) and Second-Class Scholarships in sixth semester. As a teaching assistant, I’ve also handled a project called ‘Key Performance Indicator Assistant’ using ASP.NET and SQL. As a result, my project was received Top 10 best research in the lab software.

However, the four-year undergraduate program and working experiences in the university did not put an end to my academic pursuit. Realizing the importance and the necessity to constantly upgrade my professional knowledge in this age of rapid development in information technology, I found a graduate education in Computing and Information system would be vital for my further academic and career development. I’ve determined that a dedicated study on this program will enable me to aggregate all my previous knowledge and experience on the field. I am confident that my academic records, practical knowledge combined with my eagerness to do research exhibit the perseverance and zeal to succeed in the Master’s Degree in your university.

I am ordinary student but I do not want to remain ordinary. I want to step out from my boundaries and scale new heights. I believe that a graduate study in Computing and Information System in Youngstown University will provide milestone in my career along with invaluable experience and skills that will allow me to accomplish my goal – becoming a well-trained system analyst as well as a successful and professional in IT.
