Is the t stopped or aspirated?

I asked my friends from the States and Canada, they all gave me differenct answers.

I want to know which one is more standard and common among native speakers.

I teach children English , so this is very important to me.

Many thanks!!

Whenever I hear movies from the USA, I hear them pronounced with the stopped /t/ sound. I don't remember about British, though.
