writings/literatures

The ruby, sometimes called the "King of Gems," can be traced back to ancient Sanskrit writings.

Hi,

"Writings" in the above means about the same as "literatures" when they're translated into our mother tongue. Do they to you? Thanks.

Literature is uncountable here. Literature is normally used to indicate the art forms (poetry, fiction, etc); writings could be on any topic and may be quite brief.

In your sentence? No, it would be uncountable (i.e. no article) .
