Writing:people are less friendlier today than past

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Past people are friendlier than they are today.

People in different periods of time show some differences in their behaviors, because the different characteristics of the old days or of a modern society have some impact on these people. Humane beings are the fruits of circumstance. So people in the slow- rhythm old days are kind and friendly, while the restless modern workers, perhaps they lack of the patience to be so mild.

As is known, our society today is full of competitions, which sometimes can be regarded as battles: competitions for a job or competitions for promotion, sometimes the results can decide one’s living condition. One gain the battle, every else competitors then are the losers. It might be not so exaggerate to say that the competitions are the battles for a better life. Since one can not know exactly who is the one he or she will fight with, everyone in his or her eyes is a potential “enemy”. How could the antagonists be very friendly to each other? They are busy with making better themselves so that they can be elite in the competitions: extra working hours, self educations, and the conditions in which they have to control their temper and give in...These things are almost used up their energy and patience. They are usually too tired to keep a smile. When these smile-less modern creatures get together, the conflicts are so easy to break out.

In the contract, people in the old days are much friendlier because they have fewer things to worry about. The not so developed society doesn’t require a high level of production, so the people were not encouraged, let alone forced, to compete with each other. The way of living is so “nature”: besides work, there was enough time for them to take rest, to enjoy the good relationship with their neighbors. One didn’t regard the others as antagonists, but treated them as the people who were the same with him. He didn’t have to beat over them to proven himself or to gain his opportunity. In ancient china, to have strangers stay for a night totally without pay is very common. These strangers were usually someone that just passed by and had difficulty to find a hotel. The hosts provided them their own house as a temporary lodging. Some kindhearted hostess even made them delicious dinners. And the guests, after that night they also pay again a visit to their whilom hosts. They made friends with each other. This kind of thing can hardly happen today.
