The maps indicate the alteration that have taken place at the Darwin’s waterfront area from 2009 to 2014.
Obviously, the town underwent a significant change with the disappearance of industrial area; moreover, the construction of harbor can be considered to be a dramatic change as well.
Looking at the map in detail, by 2009, within the circle footpath, there were a lake and an industrial area located right next to the left side of the lake. In the comparison with the map in 2014, the industrial area was completely disappeared to make way for the emergence of a new swimming pool. In addition, school, convention center, fishing area and swimming pool which were located in the vicinity of the ring footpath were remained unchanged over years surveyed.
By 2009, regarding the south zone, there was a vast industrial area with a small number of residential house nearby. The industrial area was demolished to make way for the appearance of trees and a university building in the next 5 years. Because of getting more spaces, more residential houses were constructed near the former ones. Plus, there was nothing in the sea by the year 2009 but a harbor was brought into use in 2014. People could get to the new harbor thanks to the appearance of a new footpath in 2014, linking from the west to the east of the waterfront area.
