WRITING TASK 2: YOUNG POPULATION PROS AND CONS.

At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people.

Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages?

Answer.

Different nations in the world possess various population trend, some have a proportion of young adults dwarfs that of the older groups. Some people believe that it is a blessing while others deem it a burden to the society. In this essay, I will discuss both the advantages and drawbacks of this situation.

On the one hand, having a young workforce can present many problems. First, employment rate and job security will be very hard to maintain. With a growing influx of people coming into the job market, the government and corporations will be under constantly strain to create or find jobs for all of workers. Second, younger population also puts great stress on the existing infrastructures of that nation. Young population requires much more amenities than older population, which include entertainment, medical care, education for their children, food security, etc. As a result, the infrastructures need constantly improving and expanding to meet the need of the people.

On the other hand, a young population can create many opportunities for development and progress for a nation. To begin with, the economy will be benefited the most from this population model. Having a robust, strong workforce means that the productivity will be maximized. For instance, in recent decades, Vietnam possesses a young population, which allows for cheap and productive labor force. Hence, Vietnam has enjoyed increasing productivity and growth throughout this period and the same pattern can be observed in most other developing countries with similar population model such as India or Thailand. Next, younger population will encourage innovations and changes. It is without doubt that the young are faster with new technologies and machinery. Therefore, a country will modernize faster if its citizens are easily adapt to new progress brought about by new technologies and advances in science.

In conclusion, the benefit that a young population model outweighs the drawbacks that it may present.
