Topic: Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people. Why is the case and what can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?

There are a number of factors that explain why many museums and historical sites fail to attract local residents. However, this issue can be resolved by adopting a number of solutions, as will be discussed now.

Firstly, entrance fee is to blame. Local people tend to be reluctant to pay for entrance tickets to visit museums and historical attractions with which they are familiar. For example, high entrance fee for Hue Imperial City may hold the nearby inhabitants back from paying a visit. Another reason is that poor preservation and no refreshment make important locations to fail to attract the local. If there are no improvements or restorations, only tourists and a few local residents are willing to go to these places.

However, a range of available options can be taken to tackle the problem. One simple action is that the local should be given a chance to access monuments and museums for free. Therefore, local people may not bear in minds about much expenditure spending on their visit to these locations. Another remedy is that the local authority should consider redecoration and restoration of historical heritage by allocating more public money to them. The refresher the museums are, the more local people are interested in them. Besides, the authority should continue campaigns such as exhibitions, fairs and festivals aiming at encouraging local people to visit these historical attractions.

In conclusion, various measures need to be taken to gain back local people’s interests in museums and historical locations.
