Writing task 2- TOEFL. Topic: Work

Hi everybody, today I write an essay about working with others. Hope to receive feedback from you.

Have a nice weekend!

Task 2: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? When classmates or colleagues communicate about a project in person instead of by e-mail, they will produce better work for the project. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

When classmates or colleagues exchange face-to-face conversations about a project rather than email, their work performance will benefit the project. I agree with this statement.

To begin with, discussing a project in person would promote a better understanding of the project for colleagues or classmates. Take me as an example. Three years ago, I joined a group of students in which we had to write a research paper about ways to learn vocabulary effectively. Although we did communicate with each other by email and on social media about the topic, our project did not have any significant improvement. Before the due date, however, we decided to meet each other in person for further discussion at a cafe. When sitting together, we could be able to correct any mistakes in the paper and come up with better ideas, which improved the work substantially. As a result, our paper was marked highest in the class and our group also received praises from the teacher and other classmates.

Furthermore, having face-to-face communication enables people to learn more about the personality of others, which, in turn, would give out good results for the project. For instance, in a multimedia company, a group of five employees has to make a short music video about Tet Holiday- a special national holiday in Vietnam, used for their company’s Spring advertising campaign. For the leader, sending documents and also receiving feedback about their work via email may be efficient but only on individual levels. He supposes that team members need to get to know each other so that they can work well. Therefore, he decides to organize some face-to-face meetings for his team after work. During these meetings, the leader can identify the strength and weaknesses of his team and know which people can collaborate well with each other and which people cannot. As such, he can delegate tasks suitable for all team members, bringing the best result for the company.

To sum up, when classmates or colleagues communicate with each other directly instead of by e-mail, they would gain a deeper understanding of their work and know more about their teammates’ characteristics, which will result in better work for the project.
