Task 2:

Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Our current ways of life will have a negative impact on future generations.

Nowadays, the development of society has entailed our different ways of life. However, our current ways of life will lead to negative consequences for future generations. I agree with this statement.

To begin with, relying on the social platform too much would have a severe impact on our social awareness, which can be passed down to future generations. For instance, currently, some people do not need to go out for social gatherings. Rather, they can stay at home and use Zoom or Skype- Video conferencing platforms that can help people to meet each other via camera or sound. Although these platforms can be convenient to some extent, they would not allow people to have physical contact with others, which is the glue to connect everyone. Eventually, this way of life will perpetuate the false belief for young generations that there is no need to have face-to-face contact with each other to maintain the social bond.

Furthermore, exploiting the environment would negatively affect the health of future generations. To be more specific, every year, many forests, have been destructed to make way for many buildings. This would lead to many serious problems for all species. As for wild animals, their population would substantially decrease because of losing their homes- the forests. Besides, cutting down trees in the forests would prevent the trees from absorbing carbon dioxide- which is the main cause of air pollution on Earth. As such, in the future, our next generation may neither see different types of plants and animals from nature nor enjoy the fresh atmosphere. Instead, they will have to suffer from the polluted atmosphere as well as live in places devoid of nature, which can be detrimental to their health.

To sum up, I believe that our present ways of life will lead to negative effects on future generations. These days, using social platforms to strike up relationships would alter future generations’ awareness about the value of social bonds, nurtured by real contact with each other. Also, environmental destruction would take away the chance for the next generations to live in clean, natural surroundings, damaging their health as a result.
