Hi everyone, today I post another Task 2 essay. I am not good at vocabulary choice and maybe other things so I hope that I can receive your feedback. Thanks !
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Teachers were more appreciated and valued by society in the past than they are nowadays.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Teachers play a vital role in education and in society as a whole. However, some people believe that teachers used to be more respected and cherished by society than they are now. I agree with this statement.
To begin with, in the past, teachers were greatly respected by society since they were mainly responsible for instructing students at schools. To be more specific, not only did the teacher have to complete their lesson on time, but they also supervised their students so that everything could go smoothly in class. Meanwhile, they also needed to help their students to distinguish between right and wrong in terms of their behaviour. Knowing that how dedicated a teacher is, many parents would respect and believe in their children’s teachers. When students made mistakes at school and their teachers complained to their parents, their parents would apologize to the teachers and promise not to let this happen again. In contrast, in society now, when something bad happens at schools, teachers are the first ones to be blamed for. For example, if some students get punishment in class because of not doing the exercise, they will go back home and tell their parents how unfair the teachers are. Then, their parents, without any hesitation, demand the teachers to apologize to their children or even ask them to quit their job.
Furthermore, in the past, people in society were inclined to value teachers anytime anywhere. Take my grandmother as an example. She often tells me that, when she was a high school teacher, many people would appreciate her presence. On special holidays, she got presents and wishes not only from students but also from her colleagues. Sometimes, her former students visited my grandmother and recalled old memories together. Unlike now, teachers tend to not receive much admiration from society. More specifically, many holidays for teachers are only held for the sake of form. Also, students are more likely not to keep in touch with their beloved teachers after graduating from their schools.
To sum up, I believe that teachers tended to receive more respect and appreciation for their role from society in the past than now because of their dedication in teaching and also the tendency of society to value them in any situation.
