Nowadays, It is often said that if not becoming a successful person in occupation, lives no longer has any meaning. The idea that career is essential in human-beings lives has become a source of controversy, downside of this viewpoint cannot be overlooked.
On the one hand, it cannot denied that working plays a significant role in one’s life. For instance, according to an annual survey carried out in the UK, a person spends roughly 25 to 30 years on their career, thus working time accounts for one third of a person’s life. Hence if people obtain a worthwhile job that blooms, their lifetime is likely to be filled with human well-being. Furthermore, if people pick up on experience of job satisfaction, they are able to suffer from chronic stress, which affects their mental and physical health.
On the other hand, I highly contend that there are more desirable aims rather than a successful occupation to get in our life. A vast majority of people perceive a meaningful life as helping and supporting others living in poor and impoverished conditions. They probably spend their time and money devoting to charity work. To illustrate, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the world’s largest charitable foundation, found in the year 2000 by Bill Gates and his wife. When it was first established, the Fund was generated to improve health care, reduce poverty globally. In addition, there is a number of people who do not enter workforce but seem satisfied with their life. Not like almost western families are dual-income families, take Japan as an telling example, men are often the breadwinners while women usually stay at home to take over responsibilities related to household chores and childcare.
In conclusion, while the life is really meaningful if each person has an suitable and interesting occupation, and I believe that there are numerous ways having many happiness when giving something good to others in this lifetime.
