Writing task 2: Problem and Solution

Global warming is one of the biggest threats humans face in the 21st Century and sea levels are continuing to rise at alarming rates.

What problems are associated with this and what are some possible solutions.


Nowadays, people have faced up to climate change, and ocean levels rise, both of which have become global problems. There will undoubtedly be some negative consequences of the phenomenon, so people have to take steps to mitigate these serious problems as soon as possible.

One of the most emergency issues of climbing sea levels involves the flooding of residential areas. In the coastal, the sea rises lead to several floods which significantly influence daily life. Not only does the safety of humans not guaranteed, but also accommodations and property can be swept away. If shelters are destroyed by flooding, millions of people will become homeless. For example, during the Tsunami in 2011 in Japan, more than 235 billion USD and 1000000 buildings were damaged. In addition, above 15000 victims are dead, 6152 were injured, and 2601 were missing. The devastation of the disaster is regrettable with our planet.

To minizine the consequences of flooding, the government has to invest and built flood barriers. Flood defenses such as dams, dikes are suitable methods to prevent floods from reaching residential areas. The Netherlands is successful in building a flood defense system, so the daily life of people become more and more stable. In another worse case, people should change their accommodations to higher areas. Although this method is difficult and inconvenient, it can reduce the damage of floods.
In conclusion, floods are the emergency of sea level rises. Nevertheless, some measures can be taken to deal with the problems regarding build flood barriers or move to higher areas.
