Question: Scientific research should be carried out and controlled by the government rather than privates companies.
That scientific studies should be conducted and controlled whether by the state or the private owned enterprises has been argued over a period of time. From my point of view, the national authorities should take responsibility for undertaking these research instead of non-governmental businesses.
Firstly, the outcomes of scientific studies performed by the government are much more explicit and reliable than those conducted by the private companies. The state carries out research on the basis of finding out utilizable solutions to meet the public’s demands. In other words, it is the benefits of the whole society that require serious studying process. As a consequence, realistic and applicable conclusions are drawn. In contrast, so as to maximize profits, privately owned enterprises could carry out studies of which results are manipulated. For instance, one German pharmaceutical launched thalidomide after inadequate trial that resulted in births of thousands of malformed children.
Secondly, scientific research controlled by the state is mostly of high quality. These studies are normally performed by professors and doctors who are erudite and knowledgeable. Postgraduates, under the guide of lecturers at universities, can also participate and publish new findings that make a significant contribution to the development of the country. In addition, government-making decision is the best way to prioritize expenditure on research. By being focused on essential issues, studies are selectively carried out, which help to cut down on wasting sources.
To sum up, while there are some opinions supporting scientific research by corporations, I agree strongly with the view that only the state should be responsible for funding and supervising this.
