Writing task 2 please review my essay

Some people think that cultural traditions will be destroyed if they are used as money-making attractions aimed at tourists. Others, however, believe that is the only way to save these traditions.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Some people argue that turning cultural traditions into income-generating tourist attractions will ruin them, whilst others believe that there is no other way to preserve these traditions. This essay agrees that tourism plays an essential role in conserving these cultural practices.

To start with, for some people, utilizing these traditions as profitable tourist attractions could result in acculturation which obviously depersonalizes these cultural values of communities. Indeed, tourists have various cultural backgrounds. Thus, in order to make a profit from these traditions, the communities’ culture has to assimilate these differences and consequently scarify its manifestation. Nonetheless, I think this is less likely as I believe tourists have little influence on the places’ unique characters. In fact, they tend to acclimatize themselves to the places’ cultures. For example, Korean tourists visiting Hoi An, often wear Vietnamese traditional customs and consume Vietnamese foods.

Those who think that it is the only way to conserve cultural traditions, believe tourism provides income for local people to preserve communities’ cultural heritage. Today, cultural traditions in many communities have been faded due to modern life. For instance, since local people no longer have an interest in traditional handicrafts, in the past, craftsmen in Ha Noi struggled to make ends meet and some of them even had to change their career. However, the items often arouse tourists’ curiosities. Therefore, by introducing these products into the tourist market, these craftsmen now have an independent income, and this provides incentives for them to uphold these forms of cultural traditions.

In conclusion, although some people concur that turning cultural traditions into money-making tourist attractions can lead to cultural erosion, I believe this is the only way to conserve these traditions.
