An increase in production of consumer goods results in damage to the natural environment. What are the causes and possible solutions?

increasing quantity in the production of consumer goods leads to environmental degradation. I believe this problem is due to activities involving coal and fossil fuel combustion of the production process, and by setting more exhaust-gas treatment systems and sustainable resources this problem can be tackled.

An increase in the production of consumers products means a concomitant increase in demand for coal and fossil fuel combustion, and this leads to the problem of air pollution. In order to convert raw materials to consumer goods, the process of heating and cooling are required, and factories choose coal and fossil fuel to generate energy for this process. Indeed, these two materials are detrimental to the environment as when burning, they emit a massive amount of CO2. For example, the energy sectors in the US uses coal as a means of generating electricity. In 2014, the US’s coal power industry released approximately 576,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

This problem can be addressed by setting more exhaust-gas cleaning systems. These technologies can decontaminate and reduce industrial emissions emitted from coal and fossil burning, thus, mitigating the problem of air pollution. Dealing with this issue also involves encouraging and enforcing renewable and clean sources of energy such as solar and wind energy. By using these eco-friendly energies in production, people can reduce their reliance on coal and fossil fuel, hence, protecting natural resources and cutting down on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Singapore, for instance, uses sustainable energy to produce consumer productions, and this might be the main factor that makes the country environmentally-friendly.

In conclusion, the activities of coal and fossil fuel burning in the production process is the main contributor that results in environmental damage. However, by using exhaust-gas cleaning systems and eco-friendly sources of energy, this problem can be tackled.
