Some people think that resources should be spent on protecting wild animals, while others think those would be better used for the human population. Give your opinion.

Whether resources should be allocated to preserve animals or to assist human beings has polarized public opinion. I contend that endangered animals are in dire need of help and crucial in human lives, hence the importance of tactically devoting resources to provide wildlife refuge.

Firstly, the threats that animals face are pressing and justifies urgent measures. While the prophets of doom and gloom are always claiming that humanity is soon heading for a catastrophe, it is visible that the worst-case scenario is of a world rife with environmental issues, poverty, and epidemics, none of which possibly imperils and leads to the extinction of humanity as a whole at present. However, what animals are facing include shrinking habitats, poaching, and fur trade, which results in their fast-decreasing population and disappearance of many species, is immediate. What is more, the reduction in biodiversity is likely to cause a “domino effect”, which further complicates the problem if not properly tackled.

Secondly, the extinction of animals might have major repercussions for humanity. Concerted attempts should be made to provide legal protection for animals if they are to survive. Even though the disappearance of a species may not seem so noteworthy, each one plays an indispensable function in the ecosystem and can leave behind far-reaching implications once extinct. Bees, for instance, play a pivotal role in the crop growing process, losing this species could spawn a decline in crop yields.

In conclusion, since the importance of wild animals is irrefutable and their situation is liable to be exacerbated shortly, budgets should be spent on wildlife conservation.
