Topic: Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people. Why is this the case and what can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?

Essay:

There ia a fact that nowadays, various museums attract thousands of tourists every year, however, there are few local residents among those visitors. Some reasons are the main causes pf this status quo and there are a number of suggestions to make museums more appealing to locals.

It is clear why museums succeed in drawing the attention of foreign visitors rather than local people. As a matter of fact, locals have been living in the area since birth and they were taught about special destinations, inclusing museums of the neighborhood. Moreover, they must have been to those places at least once. As a result, being a local means being familiar to the native museums that they have had abundant opportunities to explore. Another reason is that the city council gives museums little renovation or nothing at all. Consequently, the buildings become unattractive visually and downgraded over the years. Besides, the samples on display are presented to visitors in a plain and monotonic way, hence they can not arouse the interest of tourists.

There are plenty solutions for museums to win over locals. Firstly, museums should be under excellent maintenance, thus they remain beautiful, whole and worth visiting. In addition, museums serve both educational and entertaining purposes so there should be stories about the things on display, which leave tourists with new knowledge and unforgettable experiences. For instance, while observing a cannon, tourists can hear about its origin told by a knowledgeable tour guide. Secondly, promoting local museums on social media is essential to attract the residents. During national celebration, events may take place at museums to spread their reputation and raise people's curiosity.

In conclusion, it is because of the familiarity and lack of new experiences that local citizens are not as enthusiastic about museums as foreigners. The situation can be improved by introducing museums on social media or giving people a chance ro broaden their horizons. It is important for the locals to appreciate the values of the neighborhood museums.
