Some people believe that if a police force carries guns, this encourages higher level of violence in that society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
My essay:
It is said that when police are fully prepared with guns, they are more likely to increase the level of violence in the society. However, in my opinion, I disagree with this point of view for several reasons.
First of all, gun regulations could help increase the safety of police officers. They are whom take the responsibility of protecting the innocent citizens and decline the crime rate in a certain area. Thus, offenders might try to attack these working people since they are trying to commit the crimes, which is illegal due to the laws. As a consequence, if the police officers do not have guns to attack back or keep distance from the offenders, they could get hurt or be killed. Furthermore, because the police have been trained for a long time before getting into practice, they can control their behavior and just use guns when they should do such as facing a dangerous gang.
Second, police carrying guns could decrease the crime rate in the society. Some occupants might be scared of being shot and can lay their hands down right away to save their lives from the police officers. In this situation, guns help the police deter the violent crime and prevent bad people from causing more problems. On the other hand, when people know that police have guns on their hands, they will not try to commit the crimes since the police could shoot them in a far distance if they escape.
In conclusion, using guns could not cause any violence to the community. However, the police should be careful not to injure innocent people when they are in their mission; and the government should have more gun obligations to prevent the overuse of guns of the police officers.
