Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is argued that governments should invest money in railways rather than roads. I personally disagree with this opinion, and I believe that should be spent more money than railways.

On the one hand, there are some reasons why some believe that it is beneficial if governments improve railways. One of them is that railways can be a great alternative when people find traveling on roads inconvenient and unsafe. Nowadays, the number of vehicles is dramatically increasing, leading to traffic congestion. That can adversely affected commuters when they get stuck in traffic. Another reason is that increasing train stations is likely to reduce the amount of emissions, which can help to protect the environment. If more railways of good quality are constructed, people tend to use trains instead of cars or motorbikes. Therefore, emissions from private vehicles will decline, meaning that our environment is well protected.

On the other hand, I am convinced that roads should be invested to improve the quality. First, people use roads more than railways. Roads are widely used in every country. Commuters often choose to ride motorbikes or drive cars to work rather than taking a train. Second, traffic jams or accidents on roads happens more often than on railways. With different means of transport such as cars, motorbikes, buses, the possibility of accidents on roads is higher than on railways, which can cause damage to vehicles users. If governments do not spend money to improve and build new roads, the problem of accidents and traffic jams is likely to get worse. Therefore, they need to invest money in roads as much as they can.

In conclusion, roads are popularly used by all citizens in each nation, and I am convinced that they are more important and should be fostered than railways.
