Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for a charity, improving the neighbourhood or teaching sports to younger children). To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is believed that high school programmes should include non-profit community service such as doing charity and voluntary work. Personally, I think that it its a good idea which students can gain significant benefits from.
It is undeniable that there is a number of reasons that unpaid community service should not be included in school programmes. The first reason is that joining such service could have a negative impact on studying results of students. Those who take part in doing charity work tend to spend less time concentrating on learning at school, resulting in poor academic achievements. That can adversely affect their future when they enter university. Another reason for excluding activities for community in learning programmes is that high school students could experience early relationships, leading to unwanted consequences. This not only has a detrimental effect on their health but also on their emotion when they are still in process of maturing.
Despite some disadvantages of unpaid community service, I still think that if it is included in curriculum in high school, students can achieve more benefits from it. Firstly, students who participate in this kind of service in school will have a chance to improve their skills such as teamwork, communication and collaboration because they usually interact with other people, which helps them to be more successful in the future. In addition, involving in activities for community without payment would enhance students' awareness. Those who are exposed regularly with young children of poor living conditions are likely to sympathetic. Thanks to that, they understand how lucky they are, and try to become good citizens.
In conclusion, including non-profit community service in curriculum in high school will bring a well-rounded development to students.
