WRITING TASK 2 IELTS: HOSTING AN INTERNATIONAL SPORTS EVENT

Task 2: Some people think that hosting an international sports event is good for the country, while some people think it is bad. Discuss both views and state your opinion.

Essay:

It is often argued that multinational sports event bring many benefits to the host nation, while others believe that these occasions have some negative effects. In my opinion, I believe that although international sporting events have some dismissive impacts, overall they benefit the country in which the host’s government do business.

A growing body of research suggests that hosting an international sports event have a generally positive affect on the economies to the country that hosted. One key benefit is that global sporting events can help some countries wishing promote their profile, the Olympics, World Cup or a lot more sport-related events can be an ideal choice. Taking South Africa as an example a lot more people know their name after World Cup 2010 and one more represent is China, which country has gained increasing global reputation through Olympic Beijing 2008. In addition, international sports event can create job opportunity for the local people. It is clear that being a host of multinational sporting events can contribute to a country develop.

However, there are also negative impacts which must be considered. One important issue is that it can bring more long-term consequences to the environment and the economic of the host country. For instance, the facilities catering for the needs of major sporting event like Olympic, which often bring in its wake the obliteration of hundred kilometers of forests. Furthermore, these amenities are unused and discarded after a short period time, while the maintenance costs can become a big economic burden.

In conclusion, while hosting an international sports event can benefit the nation that hosted through promoting their profiles and creating job, they can also threaten the environment and economic. In my opinion, despite having some negative impacts, I believe being the host of major sporting events are generally beneficial. However, I would argue that every government should protect the environment and their country’s economic.
