Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to solve; others believe individuals can also do some things to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Environmental pollution has become one of the most urgent concerns recently, resulting in several worldwide debates. While some people claim that it is not individuals ‘responsibility to tackle this problem, others deem that a single person can also make some contributions to minimize it. This essay will discuss both sides of view before giving my own perspective.
On the one hand, there are numerous reasons why an individual cannot solve all the environmental issues by himself. Firstly, the natural problems encompass various areas that individual effort may become futile. For example, natural disasters such as flash flood or acid rain cannot be solved immediately and completely, as a result, an average person cannot prevent it properly. Moreover, it is the government’s responsibility to limit the risk of environmental issues. Strict laws should be published to minimize the man-made problems such as deforestation and chemical wastes dumped from heavy industry. These actions can curb environmental deterioration and raise the public’s ecological consciousness, which could not be done by individuals.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that a greater level of environmental contamination is caused by individual’s daily activities; therefore, everybody should take responsibility. Initially, people’s awareness about natural surroundings is limited in some places, thus they may unintentionally do things harming the environment such as littering. If every single person can observe the laws and protect the nature even from the simplest activities, these problems will be alleviated. Some effective measures like using public transport to reduce the amount of fumes exhausted by private vehicles or dumping the domestic rubbish in a right place can easily be done by individuals. Furthermore, each person forms a community. As a result, if a single one does something to help the environment, others will properly follow his example, leading to an environmentally-friendly society.
In the conclusion, although environmental problems are the major concern that cannot be solve easily and personally, I believe each person can contribute to minimize the consequences.
